A federal contractor used by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) failed to appropriately document and label truck shipments of debris containing asbestos from building demolitions at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in southeast Washington. The alleged violations occurred in 2009 and 2010 when an influx of federal stimulus funds provided the money to speed up deconstruction projects.
The DoE may encounter a fine of $115,000. due to inadequate supervision and training for handling of hazardous materials.
